Goodwill Fund Scholarships
In 1999 the Goodwill Fund Board of Directors selected the first student in the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation service territory to receive a $500 scholarship. Since this first scholarship, the Board has continued to award an increasing number of deserving students with a scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Three $750 scholarships will be awarded to any member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation, or their immediate family, attending a post-secondary institution of the student’s choice.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Board of Directors of the Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund, in consultation with the Guidance Counselors of the student’s school, will comprise the Selection Committee.
APPLICATION
Applications will be available at the Niobrara Valley EMC office in O’Neill and copies will be made available to the schools listed below. The schools shall notify seniors of this scholarship. The deadline for applications will be March 8th. Applications may be turned in at the school or the cooperative office. The following schools will have scholarship applications available: West Holt High School, Butte High School, Chambers High School, Lynch High School, Niobrara High School, Spencer-Naper High School, Stuart High School, O’Neill Public High School, and St. Mary’s High School.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
1. The student or their parents must be a member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation.
2. The student must be a high school graduate.
3. The student must be in the upper 2/3 of their graduating class, or
4. The student must have at least an overall Grade Point Average of a “C” or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the 7th semester of their high school studies or at the end of their most recent semester at a post secondary institution.
5. The student must attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the next term following their graduation from high school. If the student is already attending an eligible institution, then the scholarship must be used for the student’s next term.
6. A student may receive this scholarship more than once only if all eligible applicants are prior scholarship recipients.
7. The student must submit their application to their School Guidance Counselor or turn it in at the office of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation on or before March 8th.
ALTERNATE SELECTION
If the primary recipient of the scholarship does not accept it or fails to attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. The alternate must meet all of the requirements of the scholarship to be eligible.
PAYMENT
At the beginning of the recipient’s school term, a check for the scholarship will be issued to the institution which the student is attending.

2019 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The recipients of the 2019 Goodwill Fund Scholarships have been selected. Due to the quality of the nineteen applicants and the availability of funds, the board chose to award three $750 scholarships this year. This year’s recipients are listed below. The Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund board would like to congratulate all the scholarship winners and wish them the best of luck in pursuit of their respective careers.
Casey is the son of Joel and Kaye Coburn. The West Holt High School graduate earned 16 NSAA letters in Band, Football, Wrestling and Track. He was a Niobrara Valley Conference First Team Selection for Wrestling and D-1 District Football Team-Honorable Mention Selection. He was named to the NCPA Academic All-State Team for Football and two years for wrestling and Niobrara Valley Conference All-Academic Team two years. He was a member of the National Honor Society. Casey has been on five Nebraska State Championship FFA teams for three years. He was the overall individual state range judging champion in 2016. He also has been on two state champion Agriscience Fair teams. He was a Nebraska State Star Finalist in Agriscience. On the National level, he received silver in the Agriscience Fair and gold in Nursery and Landscape along with competing two years in the National Range Judging Contest. As an 11 year member of the Horses Unlimited 4-H Club, he has displayed field crops and shown cattle at the Nebraska State Fair. He was on back to back Nebraska State Livestock Champion Judging Teams. He has competed at the AK-SAR-BEN Livestock Judging Contest and the National 4-H Livestock Judging contest where his team finished 11th overall and 5th in beef. He was named the 2017 Holt County Outstanding 4-Her. In his community, he was the 2018 Hay Days Prince. His favorite service project is making the large animal champion plaques for the livestock exhibits at the county fair. He plans to attend Mitchell Technical Institute to pursue an architectural design and building construction degree.
- Haylee is the daughter of Jeremy & Amanda Kaufman of O’Neill. The O’Neill High School graduate was active in volleyball, basketball, dance team, musical, track and O Club. Haylee has also volunteered and helped with Meals on Wheels. As a member of her church, Haylee has participated in youth group and assisted with vacation bible school. This will be her second summer working at Avera St. Anthony’s as a Patient Care Tech. Haylee plans to attend Northeast Community College and major in Nursing. After receiving her nursing degree, she hopes to return to her hometown and pursue her career at the local hospital.
Evan is the son of Casey and Lisa Reiman of Butte, NE. The Boyd Co. High School graduate participated in Cross Country all four years of high school and was a State Team Qualifier for three years, State Individual Qualifier for one year, and a Letter winner for four years. In his four years of playing high school basketball his accomplishments included: District Team Runner-up for two years, NVC Second Team & NVC All Star Game Player his senior year and Letter winner for two years. Evan was involved in Golf all four years and qualified for the State Team one year along with earning a letter all four years. Over the course of his senior year he earned the Outstanding Athlete Award. Alongside sports, he participated in Band all four years and was awarded a Letter each year. During his high school career he took on the role of Vice-President for three years and maintained being an Honor Roll Student throughout the years. Evan is a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Naper. He plans to attend Northeast Community College in the fall and major in Electrical Construction and Control.
